Washington State Courts Customized Web Application
The Client
Washington State has a Supreme Court, Courts of Appeals, County Courts, and Tribal Courts spread all over Washington State with the Office of the Administrator for the Courts (OAC) based in the Olympia, the state capital.
The Challenge
Logical was asked to manage the OAC project to convert a Judicial Receipting System (JRS) from Delphi to Java. The Washington State Office wanted an automated code distribution, and mainframe database integration, with Windows look-and-feel functionality.
The Solution
The solution involved crafting detailed proposals which highlight functionality mapping and performance benchmarking; prototyping a Java based UI; and integrating it with ActiveX to communicate with peripherals.
Logicalis developed a proof of concept Web application for the Court's Automated Proceedings System Project (CAPS). This project assisted OAC with the deployment of a browser server system for CAPS, making the OAC DB2 database accessible state-wide via the Internet. CAPS provides case assignment, proceedings notification, recording of proceeding outcome and ad hoc reporting to courts throughout the state.
The application allows law enforcement agencies (LEAs) to maintain their officer schedules locally using a Microsoft Access application. The schedules are transferred to a SQL Server database on a centralized server running NT Server. LEAs connect to the server using Remote Access Service over a phone line or an existing TCP/IP network connection.
A similar module for OAC was developed to schedule and manage availability of judges and courtrooms.
